Oct. 1-3: “Cursed?" - Re-storying The Generational Wisdom of Matrilineal Archetypes” (Mother/Grandmother/Auntie) (1)

We have a horrible understanding of the biblical text that discusses “generational curses.” Time to correct the narrative.

About the event

Whose story is worth telling?

Who is worth remembering?

“Cursed?: Re-storying The Generational Wisdom of Matrilineal Archetypes” is a character development workshop using personal familial matriarchs - mothers, grandmothers, aunties. We will examine the wisdom, choices, and insight of the women in our family.

We will explore the Hebrew ideas around "curses," then rewrite their stories from a place of agency and empathy.

“They did the best they could when they didn’t know any better.” True.

“Everyone is fighting a battle that no one knows about.” Also true.

When you put them together, what do you get? Let’s re-story their wisdom and choices.

DAY 1 (Oct. 1) - Biblical exegesis on the concept “cursed”; biblical characters - mothers, grandmothers, aunties; exploration of biblical wisdom tradition

DAY 2 (Oct. 2) - Draft list of character traits; examination of their “why’s”

DAY 3 (Oct. 3) - Select a matrilineal member of your family; write a new story

Benefits/outcomes? We will heal our family memories. We will tell better stories about Black women and their choices.

Why me?  I am an artistic theologian and cartographer of the inner life. Since no one likes a naked truth, I, therefore, have become truth’s stylist - dressing it in stories that fit each occasion.

Principles - reclamation, joy, right remembering, creativity

(NOTE: This is a pre-memoir workshop. All are welcome.)
